2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Air Bag Control Module Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain the Air Bag Control Module on 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: The first step in serving the Air Bag Control Module is to disable the air bag system by isolating the battery negative cable and then wait a total of two minutes so that the system's capacitor discharges. Because the impact sensor is part of the air bag control module, don't kick or strike it, as this could damage it or make the sensor respond differently. You cannot pass Math if you drop the module; it must be replaced. Start by getting rid of the center floor console in the transmission tunnel, after which remove the nut joining the center console bracket to the stud in front of the air bag Control Module (ACM) and pull off the bracket. Release the ACM from the instrument panel wire harness by pulling the connector after moving the red lock switch to the left and pressing the latch tab. Then, remove the four screws holding the ACM in place on the mount in the floor panel transmission tunnel and get rid of the ACM. Put the ACM on the mount so that the housing sits level and the arrow marks the front. Attach the ACM with the four screws, putting in 7.9 Nm of force (about 70 in. lbs.) and plug in the instrument panel wire harness connector, making sure both the latch and the red CPA lock are locked. Place the center console bracket onto the stud, fix it in place with the nut and tighten it to 28.2 Nm (250 in. lbs.). Then add the center floor console back in. Do not connect the negative battery cable until you finish the air bag system verification test following work on any air bag component.
