2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Dimmer Switch Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Dimmer Switch on the Left Multi-Function Panel on 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Turn off the air bag system by detaching the negative battery cable and wait at least two minutes so the air bag does not accidentally deploy. First, unscrew the attachment between the shroud and the switch housing and then release both parts of the shroud. Release the connector between the instrument panel wire harness and the left multi-function switch and remove the two screws holding the switch on the mounting housing. To install, place the new left multi-function switch in the mounting housing and use the two screws to hold it down, tightening the screws to 2.5 Nm (22 in. lbs.). Attach the instrument panel wire harness connector to the harness, then slide the lower tilting steering column shroud into the center with the screw and tighten it to 1.9 Nm (17 in. lbs.). Afterward, attach the upper steering column shroud to the lower one by aligning it and snapping it, making sure the button on the hazard warning switch is inserted. Now you may reconnect the battery negative cable as well.
