2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Throttle Position Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install and Remove a Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) on 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: To take out the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS), unplug the electrical connector from the TPS and then disconnect the TPS screws which are secured to the throttle body. Ensure that the throttle shaft from the throttle body is put into the socket on the TPS and check that the TPS can be rotated a bit. If it does not rotate, insert the throttle shaft on the other side of the socket tangs so the TPS has light tension when rotated. Following installation of the TPS and retaining screws, make sure they are tightened with 7 Nm (60 in. Lbs.) of torque, reconnect the TPS electrical connector and verify that the throttle does not have any binding when manually moving it before starting the engine.
