2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Oxygen Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Properly Maintain an Oxygen Sensor on 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: During service of the oxygen sensor, do not grease the electrical connector and do not solder the pigtail harness, because the sensor draws oxygen from the air outside through its special wiring. Ease your engine into a cooler state before you remove it, since those parts may be burning hot while it's running. Lift and support the vehicle, unplug the O2S pigtail harness from the main harness and if the vehicle has sensor wires, disconnect the holder clips from either the body or engine-just be sure not to pull the sensor wire. Let the tool take care of the removal process. Since the new oxygen sensors have anti-seize coating from the factory, don't add any extra compound during installation. Screw the O2S sensor onto its proper position and tighten it to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.), after which connect its wire connector to the main wiring harness. Should the sensor wire harness connect to the engine or body, attach its clips thereafter and secure the O2S pigtail harness in its original places with clips or bolts to avoid harming the wiring. Now, start to lower the vehicle.
