2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Washer Reservoir Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain a Washer Reservoir on 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: You should first break the negative connection to the battery battery to service the windshield washer reservoir. Pull the air cleaner housing off the left front fender wheel house and cut off its two connections from inside the engine compartment. Unscrew the cap that fills the washer's reservoir and pull the hinge off the hook at the top of the neck. Ease out the screw under the filler neck on the left inner fender shield. Raise the car and remove the liner from the left front fender wheel house. Remove both headlamp and dash wire harness connectors for the washer pump/motor units from the receptacles they are attached to. Remove the two bolts that keep the inboard end of the washer reservoir to the left front inner wheel house in place. Grab the back of the bottom reservoir in the tailgate and pull it back to remove the connector to the washer fluid level switch and dash wire harness from the left headlamp. Pull the underside of the washer reservoir back to remove the outboard mounting tab from its slot on the left front inner fender shield. Swing the washer reservoir so that it empties the front suspension parts before lowering the unit, breaking the washer head's seal to the hole in the front wheel house extension and then removing the reservoir. Set the reservoir between the left front wheel and the front fender, insert the filler neck into the extension hole and into the engine section and angle it so the front suspension is below the inboard flange. Pull the back of the washer reservoir rearward to place the mounting tab into the inner fender slot, reach for the washer level switch connector at the front of the reservoir and attach the left headlamp and dash wire harness connector. Attach and tighten the left inner wheel house's mounting flange to the car frame with 7.4 Nm (66 in. lbs.), after that reconnect dash and headlamp wire harnesses for the two washers installed on that side. Replace the liner at the left front fender wheel house, lower the car and tighten the washer reservoir filler neck to the left inner fender shield to 7.4 Nm (66 in. lbs.). Attach the washer reservoir filler cap hinge to the hook on the filler neck and fasten the cap, then join the two reservoir hoses to the engine area washer hoses on the inchromat connectors on the fender wheel house. Lastly, install the air cleaner and attach the negative battery cable after that.
