2001 Jeep Wrangler Throttle Position Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install a Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) on 2001 Jeep Wrangler?
A: The TPS valve is connected to the body of the engine's throttle. The first thing to do to remove the TPS is take out the air cleaner tube where it fastens to the throttle body, then take off the electrical connector from the TPS. After that, free the screws holding the TPS in place and carefully retrieve the TPS. Put the throttle body into position so that its shaft inserts into the TPS from the throttle shaft side and if it cannot rotate, flip the sensor around and place the shaft into the opposite tangs on the TPS. If you rotate the TPS, it will experience slight tension. Lay the TPS on the battery and fix it with the retaining screws, tightening them to 7 Nm. Connect the TPS electrical connector again and then turn the throttle by hand to check for binding before you start the engine. After that, place the air cleaner tube back into the throttle body.
