2001 Jeep Wrangler Intake Valve Parts and Q&A
Q: How Do Exhaust Valve and Intake Valve Specifications Influence Seat Refacing and Inspection Procedures on 2001 Jeep Wrangler?
A: These valves have a face angle of between 43-1/4- and 43-3/4-degrees and a seat angle ranging from 44-1/4- to 44-3/4-degrees. Inspect the remaining margin on valves after refacing; those with less than 1.190 mm (0.047 inch) margin must not be used. You must be sure not to expose the valves during valve seat refacing. Make sure to use the right size valve guide pilot when putting in balls to get the surface well seated. Use a dial indicator to check that the concentricity of the valve seat does not go above 0.051 mm (0.002 inch) total indicator reading. Prussian blue can be applied to the valve seat to discover where the valve touches it; put the valve on the seat, rotate it gently with pressure and observe for contact while moving. When you see the blue transferred to the center of the valve face, connectivity is complete. Should the crack go to the top of the edge, cut the valve seat 15° lower; if it goes to the bottom, set the valve seat 60° higher. A good size for intake seats is 1.016-1.524 mm (0.040-0.060 inch) and for exhaust seats is 1.524-2.032 mm (0.060-0.080 inch).
