2001 Jeep Wrangler Crankshaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Crankshaft on 2001 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Serve and repair the crankshaft by getting rid of the oil pan, the oil pump from the rear main bearing cap, the vibration damper and the timing chain cover, in order. Remove each bearing cap and bearing, lifting the crankshaft out of the block and discarding both crankshaft oil seals before you continue. When fitting the seal, apply a little engine oil to its upper edge, then set the white paint on the seal towards the engine's back. Lift the crankshaft into the cylinder block, lower seal the lips with a bit of oil and insert the new lower rear bearing oil seal into the bearing cap so the white paint is facing the back. Put a small drop of Mopar Gasket Eliminator or alternative, on each side of your rear main bearing cap, avoiding contact with the rubber seal, then mount it on the cylinder block immediately. Use the cap slot, alignment dowel and cap bolts to correctly line the bearing cap, reducing strikes to the rear cap to no more than two after assembly. Clean and apply oil to all the cap bolts, set them in place onto the main bearings and tighten each cap bolt to 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.) torque, taking them off in alternating order. Secure in the oil pump, timing chain cover and vibration damper into position. After applying the Mopar Silicone Rubber Adhesive Sealant or its equivalent, at the bearing cap for sealing, assure there is enough that it squeezes out and then remove the rest from the oil pan seal groove. Next, fit the front crankshaft oil seal and straight away reinstall the oil pan.
