2002 Jeep Wrangler Throttle Position Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install a Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) on 2002 Jeep Wrangler?
A: To take out or put in the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS), you must follow certain steps since it's mounted on the throttle body. Detach the air cleaner tube from the throttle body and afterward unplug the electrical connector of the TPS. Following that, open the housing over the TPS mounting screws and remove the TPS. While installing, verify the end of the throttle body that goes into the TPS rotates a few degrees, if not, flip the sensor and place the throttle shaft where the socket tangs are. A slight amount of tension will appear in the TPS when it is turned. Install the TPS and hold it in place using the retaining screws tightened to 7 Nm (60 in. lbs.). With the TPS electrical connector attached and after trying the throttle manually, start up the engine to see if everything is working right. Reconnect the air cleaner tube to the throttle body at the last stage.
