2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser Camshaft Position Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install a Camshaft Position Sensor on 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: The camshaft position sensor is installed right behind the cylinder head. Bring the process to start by uncovering the air cleaner and disconnecting the makeup air hose with the inlet air temperature sensor. After that, remove the negative battery cable and the connector to the camshaft position sensor. With the track removed, take off the screws securing the sensor and unplug it. Remove the screw that is attaching the magnet to the rear part of the camshaft. For mounting, fit the locating dowels in the camshaft holes and keep the magnet in place by tightening the screw to 3.6 Nm (32 ± 5 in. lbs.), since a cracked-up magnet has to be changed. After that, set the camshaft position sensor in place and tighten its screws to 13 Nm (115 ± 15 in. lbs.). Never attach the electrical connector to the sensor at an angle; instead, fix it straight to keep the sensor pins undamaged. After that, attach the negative battery terminal again and put back the air cleaner lid along with the inlet air temperature sensor and makeup air hose.
