2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser Oxygen Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Replace the Upstream Oxygen Sensor 1/1 on 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: First, unlatch the air cleaner lid and remove the makeup air hose and then disconnect the negative battery cable to remove the Oxygen Sensor 1/1 Upstream. Then, remove the sensor by using the oxygen sensor special tool, C-4907. Rinse the exhaust manifold threads with an 18 mm X 1.5 + 6E tap after the parts are removed. If using the old sensor, cover the sensor threads with anti-seize product Loctite 771-64 or another source, but avoid using compound on new sensors because they are pre-coated. First, secure the sensor with a torque of 28 Nm (20 ft. lbs.), then attach the electrical wire to the sensor, reconnect the negative battery cable and place the air cleaner lid and makeup air hose.
