2003 Dodge Dakota Camshaft Position Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install a Camshaft Position Sensor Without Removing the Distributor on 2.5/3.9/5.2/5.9L Engines on 2003 Dodge Dakota?
A: You don't need to remove the distributor to take out the camshaft position sensor on the 2.5/3.9/5.2/5.9L engines. The first task is to remove the air cleaner assembly and end the negative battery connection. After that, remove the distributor cap by undoing the two screws and then disconnect the camshaft position sensor wiring harness from the engine's main wiring harness. Lift the camshaft position sensor assembly from the distributor housing and remove the distributor rotor from the rotating shaft. Once you have the camshaft position sensor, put it back in the distributor with the alignment notch facing upwards. Connect the wires back to the harness, fit in the rotor and hold down the distributor cap with the screws before putting the air cleaner assembly in place.
