2002 Dodge Dakota Throttle Position Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Install a Throttle Position Sensor on the Throttle Body on 2002 Dodge Dakota?
A: You'll find the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) on the edge of the throttle body. Remove the air duct at the throttle body and then unplug the electrical connector for the TPS. Separately, remove the two TPS bolts from the throttle body and get the TPS off. To install, slide the throttle shaft end of the throttle body into the TPS socket until you can rotate it; if it does not move, position the sensor to keep the shaft away from the TPS socket tangs so the TPS is slightly stressed as it's turned. Affix the TPS onto the sensor from below and bolt it into place by tightening it to 7 Nm (60 in. lbs.) torque. Afterwards, give the throttle control lever a few strategic tugs to see if the TPS has any sticking points, connect the TPS wire again and secure the air duct back at the throttle body.
