2002 Dodge Dakota Coolant Temperature Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Locate and Replace a Coolant Temperature Sensor on 2002 Dodge Dakota?
A: The front water jacket near the rear of the generator holds the engine coolant temperature sensor inside the intake manifold. The cooling system must be drained a bit, so the worker does not get hurt by hot and pressurized coolant when working. Partially drain the system and then pull the electrical wire from the sensor. For air conditioned engines, fashion an L-shaped tool from a coat hanger to help you pull out the connector, since it snaps on and does not have a lock type tab. Once you are done with the engine, remove the sensor from the manifold. After installation, put the sensor in the water jacket and tighten it with 11 Nm (8 ft. lbs.) torque. Connect the wire to the sensor using a long needle nose pliers, as the connector has identical sides and either can be used. Next, add the same type of coolant that you lost.
