2002 Dodge Dakota Ignition Coil Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install an Ignition Coil on the Engine Cylinder Head on 2002 Dodge Dakota?
A: An ignition coil which has epoxy inside, is connected to a bracket bolted to the right engine cylinder head, with this bracket placed above the automatic belt tensioner bracket using ordinary bolts. Begin by disconnecting the wire from the primary terminals and also the small cable that connects to the secondary spark. Be sure not to take out the bolts that secure the coil mounting bracket to the cylinder head, because the bracket is under accessory drive belt tension. When you are done, unscrew the bolt holding the ignition coil to its mount and get rid of it. During installation, place the ignition coil on the coil bracket and secure it with the right mounting system. Lastly, attach all the wires connecting to the ignition coil.
