2001 Dodge Dakota Exhaust Manifold Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service an Exhaust Manifold on 2001 Dodge Dakota?
A: Take out the negatively connected cable from the battery and drain the cooling system to service the exhaust manifold. Lift the vehicle and take off the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold before letting it down. After you've removed fasteners 2 through 5, work on fasteners 1, 6 and 7 to disconnect the exhaust manifold. Make sure to clean the mating surfaces on the intake and engine exhaust manifolds and the cylinder head so no foreign things reach the intake or cylinder ports. Set the new intake manifold gasket over the cylinder head dowels and next center the engine exhaust manifold assembly on top of the studs and spacer at the end. Reach torque of 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) when tightening bolt No.1 and use 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.) for bolts 2 through 5 during installation of the intake manifold on the cylinder head dowels. Put new engine exhaust manifold spacers over the studs in the cylinder head and tighten nuts 6 and 7 to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.) torque. Attach the intake manifold, lift the car and join the exhaust pipe to the engine exhaust manifold by tightening them with 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.) of torque. With the vehicle lowered, fill the coolant, rehook the negative battery cable, start the engine and see if any fluid comes out.
