How to Service a Heater Core on 2002 Dodge Dakota?

Before handling a heater core, first disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable to turn off the air bag system and wait two minutes for the air bag capacitor to fully discharge. Drain the coolant from all parts of the engine first. Then, get the heater-A/C housing out of the car and break the HVAC housing apart to reach the heater core. Lift the heater core from its position in the heater-A/C housing. Begin by installing the new heater core in the lower part of the heater-A/C housing, then fit it all together and set the housing back into the vehicle. The cooling system should be refilled once all the work is done.
