2002 Dodge Dakota Parking Brake Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Rear Parking Brake Cable on 2002 Dodge Dakota?
A: Start by raising and supporting the car and after that, remove the rear wheel and tire assemblies. First, loosen the tensioner adjuster nut, remove the right cable from the extension cable and free it from the frame clip as you pull through the left cable connector. After that, unplug the left cable connector from the left cable and slide them both through the cable bracket. Remove the retainers from the housing of your differential, then take off the brake drums and separate each cable from the park brake lever. At the brake support plates, push in on each cable housing bolts and pull the cables out of the plates. Slide each brake cable housing into the brake support plate hole so the tabs at the end of the housing begin to secure it. Close the handle toward the back of the car and after releasing, pull the cable end to ensure it's attached to the lever. Put the brake drum on, followed by the right cable mounting retainers, then run the cable housing through the cable bracket. Connect the left cable into the cable connector, push the right cable housing inside the left connector and fasten them to the extension cable. In the end, fit the wheel and tire setups, perform the required park brake check, eliminate the support and bring down the car.
