2001 Dodge Dakota Parking Brake Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Parking Brake Cable on 2001 Dodge Dakota?
A: Before servicing or repairing the front parking brake cable, raise and support the vehicle and loosen its adjusting nut. Before you lower your car, release the support cable from the front cable and disconnect the front cable from the cable tensioner. After that, detach the left kick panel, fold the front edge of the floor cover backwards and get the cable grommet out from the floor pan. Take the cable off the park brake pedal assembly and literally work the cable and housing through the floor pan to take the front cable out of the vehicle. When installing, insert the front cable under the floor pan and place the grommet on at the same time. Place the cable retainer through the hold at the bottom of the pedal assembly bracket and secure the cable end. Drop the floor covering, put the kick panel back in and raise and support the vehicle. Fit the support cable to the front cable, fasten the front cable to the tensioner, set the parking brakes and then remove the support and bring the vehicle down.
