2002 Dodge Durango Seat Belt Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace a Faulty Seat Belt and Retractor Unit on 2002 Dodge Durango?
A: Before swapping out a front seat belt and tensioner, turn off the supplemental restraint system by removing and isolating the negative battery cable and allow 2 minutes for the capacitor to discharge. Pull the front seats all the way in for better access to the lower seat belt anchor plate, retractor and B-pillar. Take off the cover on the lower seat belt anchor point and remove the screw it holds. Pull the front shoulder belt turning loop cover up and remove the screw that holds the turning loop to the height adjuster; then remove the screw and the turning loop itself. Pull out of the door jamb panel and unscrew the bracket for the seat belt guide located above the retractor on the B-pillar. Remove the seat belt tensioner wire connector and, for the driver's side only, remove the seat belt switch wire connector. Pull out the screw and release the front shoulder belt with its retractor from the B-pillar. While installing, put the retractor shield in the B-pillar, place the retractor and secure it with a screw tightened to 40 Nm (29 ft. lbs.). Reconnect the tensioner wire connector to the seat belt and only for the driver's side, reconnect the switch wire connector. Put the seat belt web guide on the B-pillar and secure it with two screws turned to 2 Nm (17 in. lbs.). Insert the trim into the B-pillar, stick the shoulder belt turning loop on the height adjuster and tighten the attaching screw to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.). Cover over the hook at the top of the front shoulder belt by bringing the trim along and snapping it, then place the anchor for the lower seat belt onto the car's seat adjuster and screw it in place with 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.) of torque. After that, move the cover onto the lower seat belt anchor plate and wait until the SR verification test is done before you reattach the battery cable.
