2002 Dodge Neon Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Power Steering Pump on a 2.0L Engine on 2002 Dodge Neon?
A: Before you begin, shut down the engine and check the fluid amount so you won't risk being hurt by moving pieces. Don't use other automatic transmission fluids; instead, rely solely on Mopar® ATF+4 Automatic Transmission Fluid with MS-9602. Wash the filler cap and make sure the mark at the top of the dipstick shows FULL when the engine is operating between 21°C and 27°C (70°F and 80°F). Add fluid to the reservoir up to the correct level and leave it to settle for a minimum of two minutes. Drive around for a little bit, then let the engine run for a few seconds once more before switching it off. Should you need it, use more fluid and redo this step until the engine stays at the same fluid level even after running. Raise the front wheels, turn the ignition, turn the steering wheel slowly right and left while holding each end of the wheel for about a second, adding fluid whenever necessary. Drive your vehicle down and sweep the steering wheel from one stop to the other. Turn off the engine, examine the fluid and add more when it's low. Should the fluid look very foamy, leave the vehicle for some moments and then attempt the test once more.
