2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Brake Light Switch Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Repair and Maintain a Brake Light Switch on 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Take out the steering column cover and the lower trim panel before you begin working on the brake light switch. Put your foot on the brake pedal until it's all the way down, then turn the switch counterclockwise by about 30° to release the retainer and pull it back out of the bracket. Take the switch harness loose and grab the switch from its vehicle position. When putting in a switch, push the plunger all the way out to the end and then attach the harness wires to the switch. With the brake applied, press the switch tab into the notch on the switch bracket, insert the switch and turn it 30° clockwise to lock everything in position. Press the brake pedal and take your foot off it; slowly pull the pedal back while listening for a click as the plunger moves to fit the switch body. Be careful not to pull down more than 20 lbs of weight on the pedal to help prevent any booster harm.
