2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Dimmer Switch Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Dimmer Switch with Airbags on 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Before handling the left multi-function switch, disable the air bag system by isolating the negative battery cable and then wait two minutes so the system does not unexpectedly come on. Start by taking off the shroud surrounding the steering column, then split the shroud in two and separate the wires of the instrument panel from the switch connector. After that, unscrew the multi-function switch on the left side from the housing and pull it out. For putting on the switch, set it onto the housing and complete the installation by tightening its screws to 2.5 Nm (22 in. lbs.). Attach the cable from the instrument panel to the switch, fix the lower tilting steering shroud below the steering column and tighten the screw to 1.9 Nm (17 in. lbs.). During the last step, make sure the upper part of the column shroud matches with the lower one and then push them together and reconnect the battery negative cable.
