  A: You need to start by disconnecting and isolating the negative (ground) cable on the battery on cars equipped with air bags to turn off the air bag system so it doesn't deploy accidentally while you work. For vehicles equipped with air conditioning, go over the related warnings and cautions first. First, take out the HVAC housing and if your car has them, remove the two retaining screws on the heater core. Lift the heater core upward by firmly pushing back on two of the retaining tabs. To install it, drop the heater core into the top of the HVAC housing and apply pressure to lock the tabs. After that, fit the two heater core retainer screws and place the HVAC housing back in position.
