2002 Jeep Liberty Oil Pan Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service an Oil Pan on 2002 Jeep Liberty?
A: Before servicing the oil pan, take out the air cleaner and lift the car on a hoist to empty it of engine oil. Loose the bolts holding on the engine mount and cut the exhaust pipe where it attaches to the manifold. If the equipment is available, take out the structural collar and the bolts of the front axle mounting, then lower the axle down to the best level. Fit Special Tool 8534 to the fender lip with the slots in the brackets matching the holes in the fender and fix each bracket with four M6 X 1.0 X 25 mm flanged cap screws. Screw the thumbscrews until the sleeves are secured to the support tube and the tube stands upright. Stack the flat washer, thrust bearing, hook and T-handle, then fasten the chain to the front cover and the hook with the supplied M10 X 1.5 X 40 mm capscrew to lift and support the engine, as required. Lift off the oil pan bolts and the oilpan, clean the oilpan and all the surfaces of the gaskets. Start installation by putting the new gasket onto the block, then use a 3 mm (1/8 in.) bead of Mopar Engine RTV at the oil pump to engine block parting line. Setup the pan, tighten all screws to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.), put the engine in place and remove Special Tool 8534. Screw the engine mount thru bolts tight, raise the front axle to the cylinder head and replace the front axle bolts if supplied with the kit. Fit the exhaust pipe back onto the manifold, snap on the structural collar if using one, thoroughly remove the jack stands, add the proper oil to the oil injection port and now reinstall the air cleaner assembly.
