2002 Jeep Wrangler Oxygen Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix an Oxygen Sensor on 2002 Jeep Wrangler?
A: The exhaust manifold, pipes and catalytic converter can become very hot while the engine is running, making it unsafe to service or repair the oxygen sensor. Initially elevate or jack up the vehicle, then separate the connector on the O2S sensor; make sure not to tug on the wire when you do this. Remove the oxygen sensor with the proper tool and clean the threads in the exhaust pipe with a fitting tap. Since the new O2S sensor threads are already coated with anti-seize compound, do not put any additional compound before installation. Install the O2S sensor, make sure it's tightened to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.) and finally, reconnect the O2S sensor wire before lowering the vehicle.
