2002 Jeep Wrangler Ignition Coil Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Replace an Ignition Coil on a 2.5L Engine on 2002 Jeep Wrangler?
A: An epoxy filled ignition coil should be replaced by an ignition coil of the same type. The ignition coil is secured to a special bracket located along the engine's side at the back of the distributor on the 2.5L engine. First, unhook the secondary cable and the engine harness connector from the ignition coil to open it. After that, unscrew the engine mounting bolts for the ignition coil, making sure you notice that nuts may be present on the back side of some ignition coil brackets. When you have the new ignition coil in your hands, line it up with the bracket on the cylinder block and tighten it to 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.) if nuts are used or to 5 Nm (50 in. lbs.) if just bolts are present. After you finish wiring the coil, slot the ignition coil back into place and plug in the cables to the ignition coil again.
