2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser Brake Proportioning Valve Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Brake Proportioning Valve on 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: The first step is to lock the brake pedal with a brake pedal holder so it moves only the first inch. This cuts the brake line from the master cylinder, stops brake fluid from leaving and lets you work in peace. Making the valve more accessible can be done by removing the air cleaner cover and the hose to the throttle body. After removing the brake tube from the valve being disconnected, loosen the valve from the master cylinder. Apply oil or grease to the new O-ring and set it in the master cylinder port, giving it a tightening torque of 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). Join the brake tube with the proportioning valve and tighten the nut until it feels firm at 17 Nm (145 in. lbs.). If both the cover and hose for your air cleaner are gone, reattach them the right way. Take out the brake pedal holder, drain the air from the brake line and test how well the brakes function when you drive on the road.
