2003 Dodge Dakota Evaporator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: What Safety Measures Are Essential When Servicing an Evaporator on 2003 Dodge Dakota?
A: If a vehicle includes air bags, you must disable the air bag system before starting any service or diagnosis on the steering wheel, steering column or instrument panel. First, take off the ground (negative) cable from the battery and wait two minutes for the air bag system capacitor to discharge and help prevent the air bags from deploying on their own and hurting you. First, detach the heater-A/C housing from underneath the vehicle, next open the upper housing cover and lift the evaporator coil out of the housing. Before you set the new evaporator coil into the bottom of the heater-A/C housing, add 60 milliliters (2 fluid ounces) of refrigerant oil to the system. Join the pieces of the housing together and fix it back in the vehicle once more.
