2003 Dodge Durango Air Bag Control Module Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service an Air Bag Control Module on 2003 Dodge Durango?
A: Right off the bat, you ought to disconnect and isolate the battery negative wire to prevent the supplemental restraint system from working and wait for two minutes to allow the capacitor to empty. Unscrew the adapter at the bottom of the heater-air conditioner housing and remove the floor duct adapter. Remove the carpet from both the front and rear parts of the floor panel transmission tunnel to see the air bag Control Module (ACM). Once you remove the two screws on each side of the ACM attached to the bracket welded to the floor panel, you're done with the mounting bracket stage. Raise the ACM so that the locator pins come free of the bracket and move it enough apart to locate the wire harness connector. Remove the instrument panel wire harness connector for the ACM by pushing the red CPA lock to the right, pressing the latch tab and pulling the connector straight. Take off the ACM panel from below the instrument panel. When installing, put the ACM under the instrument panel and securely attach the wire harness to the connector with the latch locked into place and the CPA in the shut position. Mount the ACM so that the locator pins enter their marks and the arrow on the ACM's label faces in the direction of travel. Securely installed the two screws in the right of the mounting plate and the two screws in the left to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.) tension. Put the carpet back into its place and bolt the adapter onto the bottom of the heater-air conditioner housing using a screw that is tightened to 2 Nm (17 in. lbs.). You shouldn't connect the negative battery cable yet because it's necessary to perform a supplemental restraint system verification test once any part of that system has been serviced.
