  A: Before starting any brake drum service or repair, raise the vehicle and remove the rear tire and wheel assembly. After that, if your car has them, remove the retaining clips from the brake drum and take off the drum once they are loose. Should the drum not loosen up, adjust the brake clearance by taking loose the top rubber plug, then turning the automatic adjuster screw up, so that the drum can be pulled off. Look over the brake shoe lining, its alignment and any contaminants before mounting the drum. Fit the rear brake drum onto the rear hub and bearing, next put the tire and wheel back in place and tighten the wheel mounting nuts to a torque of 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.). Similarly, swap the rear brake shoes when needed and bring the car down on its wheels.
