2003 Dodge Neon Power Steering Cooler Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Power Steering Cooler on 2003 Dodge Neon?
A: Siphon the fluid from the power steering fluid reservoir to start this type of service. Lift the vehicle and take the hose clamp off which holds the power steering fluid return hose to the power steering fluid cooler. When the hose clamp is removed, disconnect the hose from the cooler. Always remember to take out the hose clamp linking the power steering cooler fluid hose to the steel fitting in the power steering gear outlet port and unscrew the nuts that hold the cooler to the front suspension crossmember. On an Lhd vehicle, use the tube routing clamp on the right front of the power steering gear housing to remove the cooler tube. When you're done at the store, remove the cooler from your car. After you slide a clamp onto the power steering cooler inlet hose end, guide the clamp far enough so that the steel fitting from the power steering gear clears the end of the hose once it is installed. Place the cooler outlet hose inside the routing clamp at the power steering gear box's right front and push in firmly. Attach the hose (Which has the cooler on it) to the steering gear outlet and secure the hose clamp on the cooler's fluid hose past the bead in the steel fitting. Tighten the two screws attaching the cooler to the front suspension crossmember so that they reach 10 Nm (90 inch lbs.) torque. Add the power steering fluid return hose to the outlet tube of your cooler and fasten it using the hose clamp and be sure the rod is installed properly past the bead on the cooler tube's end. Lower the vehicle, execute the Power Steering Pump Initial Operation procedure and look for leaks at all the connections.
