2003 Dodge Neon Tie Rod End Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Tie Rod End on 2003 Dodge Neon?
A: Before servicing the tie rod outer, elevate the vehicle and then take off the tire and wheel. Raise the tie rod jam nut and insert the inner tie rod through it to withdraw the collar from the outer tie rod end; remove the collar. After that, release the outer tie rod end from the steering knuckle by untightening the nut while holding the stud still. With MB991113 Special Tool Remover, take the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle, remove the heat shield and undo the connection between the outer and inner tie rods. During installation, attach the jam nut to the inner tie rod threads, make sure the collar is installed correctly and then thread the outer tie rod onto the inner one. Put the collar at the finish end of the outer tie rod and thread the jam nut down until it tightens against the collar. Fit the tie rod heat shield on to the steering arm part of the knuckles and connect the holes and tangs together. Place the outer tie rod end onto the steering knuckle, start the nut over the stud and as you hold the stud in place, tighten the nut. Use a crowfoot wrench and a torque wrench to ensure the attaching nut is tightened to 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.), then replace and bolt the tire and wheel. After that, take the vehicle off the jacks and change the front toe setting.
