2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Brake Caliper Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Brake Caliper on Rear Disc Brakes on 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: To work on the rear disc brake caliper, you should first drain the brake fluid from the caliper. After that, secure a shop towel measuring one inch in thickness to the wood and put it in the caliper in front of the piston, so the piston is protected during removal. When you need to remove a piston, use only a brief and gentle flow of air with the blow gun through the hose and check that it doesn't break the piston. It is very important to step back as the piston leaves the cylinder to avoid hurting yourself. First, take out the caliper piston dust boot using a suitable tool, then discard it and also carefully remove and toss the piston seal without damaging the bore. After that, unscrew the bleed screw and remove the caliper slide pin bushings from the caliper.
