2004 Chrysler 300M Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Crankshaft Seal on 2004 Chrysler 300M?
A: The first thing is to take the transaxle out, then dismantle the drive plate to handle the rear oil seal in the crankshaft. With the blade of a 3/16" flat bladed screwdriver put between the dust lip and the metal cover of the crankshaft seal, lever the screwdriver through the dust lip up against the metal case to free the seal, but avoid touching the seal itself, even though the blade may touch the crankshaft edge (chamfer). Inspect the crankshaft chamfer for any burrs or scratches and if found, cover the surface with 400 grit sandpaper ahead of installation to keep seals from tearing during the process. With the visual reference down and the flywheel off, install Guide 6926-1 on the crankshaft so it fits properly as a base-mounted pilot tool. Cover the pilot tool with the seal, so the seal's lip is on the crankshaft while the seal is being installed. Now, set the seal into the retainer housing with Special Tool 6926-2 Installer and C-4171 Handle and bring it flush to the rear edge of the housing. Then, put the drive plate and transaxle in place.
