2004 Dodge Dakota Brake Line Parts and Q&A
Q: How Should You Service and Repair a Brake Line on 2004 Dodge Dakota?
A: To service and repair brake hoses and lines, use a preformed metal tube, unless steel tubes are needed in an emergency when factory parts aren't available. When forming metal brake tubes, special bending tools help avoid bending and the proper flaring tools are necessary to form a double inverted flare or an ISO flare. Utilize a Tubing Cutter to cut off the harmed tube and ream the edges afterwards to make a proper flare. Install the new tube nut on the replacement tube, slide it into the flaring tool and top it with the gauge form. Insert the tubing as far as it will go into the flaring tool's jaws, so it touches the recessed notch on the gauge that is the same size as the tube and fully tighten the tool bar to hold it in place. Drop the plug onto the end of the gauge, slide the compression disc over the gauge and set the tapered flaring screw on top of the disc. Screw the handle of the flaring tool until the plug gauge sits securely in the tool jaws, then take out the plug gauge and finish shaping the flare. For ISO flaring, do the same at the beginning by cutting the damaged tube and removing any burrs inside. Set the tube nut onto the tube, place it at the top edge of the flaring tool and tighten the tool bar. Thread the size adaptor onto the flaring tool yoke screw, apply lubricant to it and align the adaptor before turning the screw until it fits well on the tool bar.
