2004 Dodge Durango Parking Brake Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Front Parking Brake Cable on 2004 Dodge Durango?
A: Before you work on the front parking brake cable, raise the car, secure it, then lock the parking brake cable. Unscrew loosen adjusting nut 1 to give yourself some movement in the front cable and then pull out the front cable from the cable connector. Fold in the end connector of the cable against the first underbody bracket and disconnect cable 2 from that bracket. Raise the vehicle and push the small ball end of the cable out of the pedal clevis, using a screwdriver. Fit the end of cable 2 onto fitting 2 at the pedal bracket and then pull out cable 1. After removing the left cowl trim and sill plate, take up the carpet and also remove the cable from the body clip. Use cable 2 to pull the wrap up the pole and remove it with body grommet 1. Place cable fitting 2 into hole #2 in pedal assembly 1 from inside the car, put cable retainer in pedal assembly and join the cable ball end to the clevis on the assembly. Pass Route cable 2 via the flooring, secure body grommet 1 underneath, lay down the carpet and then refit the left cowl trim and sill plate. Raise and support the vehicle again, feed the cable through bracket 1 and fit the cable end into this bracket. Plug the cable into the connector, make the park brake adjustment and then bring the vehicle down.
