2003 Dodge Durango Brake Pad Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain and Fix Brake Pads on 2003 Dodge Durango?
A: The first step for replacing or fixing the front brake pads is to clean the reservoir and filler caps, next, take off the reservoir cap and empty out about 1/4 of the brake fluid. Put the vehicle up, take out the tire from its assembly and remove the wheel. To bottom the pistons, put a large C-clamp behind the caliper, so that the clamp screw goes on the outside of the brake shoe. Next, use wire tied to a suspension component to support the caliper and make sure it doesn't put any load on the brake hose. Take the brake pads off the caliper adapter, brush off any debris from the adapter's ramps and then coat them with a little high-temperature grease. First put the brake pads in the caliper adapter, then the caliper and tighten the slide pin bolts to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.), always beginning to insert the slide pins by hand rather than with a tool. Reposition the wheel and tire assembly, take off the supports and lower the vehicle. By pressing the brake pedal several times, you apply the brake pads and fill them with fluid, look for a firm brake pedal and only then proceed to drive the vehicle.
