2004 Dodge Durango Rocker Arm Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service a Rocker Arm Assembly on 2004 Dodge Durango?
A: A great first action while assembling rocker arms is to separate the negative cable for the battery to avoid any mishaps from the starter engaging. Pull off the cylinder head cover. When removing the rocker arms from cylinder No. 4, set the crankshaft so that cylinder No. 1 is at the BDC intake position. To complete cylinder No. 1, move the crankshaft until you reach the BDC combustion stroke. When working on cylinders No. 3 and No. 5, crank the engine until the piston in cylinder No. 1 is at top dead center during exhaust. Whenever cylinders No. 2 or No. 6 need to be worked on, rotate the crankshaft until the timing mark for cylinder No. 1 is aligned with the index line for the ignition stroke. Apply Tool 8516 onto the valve spring as you press down to remove the rocker arm. While setting up the engine, pour engine oil onto the rocker arms and pull them on so the concavity is over the lash adjusters to stop any major damage. Rotate the crankshaft until you reach BDC intake stroke for cylinder No. 1 before installing the rocker arm for No. 4. Turn the crankshaft until you see that cylinder No. 1 is at BDC combustion stroke. Turn the crankshaft for cylinders No. 3 and No. 5 until you feel that cylinder No. 1 is at its exhaust position. Turn the cylinders so that cylinder No. 1 is at TDC ignition stroke for both No. 2 and No. 6. Afterwards, fit on the cylinder head cover.
