2005 Dodge Durango Exhaust Valve Parts and Q&A
Q: How Can Exhaust Valve and Intake Valve Seats Be Reworked to Ensure Proper Alignment on 2005 Dodge Durango?
A: Only if the valve head angle and seat width are correct after reworking can worn or eaten valve seats be left in place; if not, the cylinder head needs replacing. Reseating stones correctly on the valve seats depends on using the appropriate valve guide pilot. First, use a dial indicator to measure the valve seat center, so that there is no more than 0.051 mm (0.002 inch) of total run-out in each direction. Then, add a little Prussian blue to the valve seat, place the correct valve (4) or (5) in the cylinder head and rotate the valve while applying little force. If the blue goes below the top line of the valve face, lower the valve seat with a 15 degree stone and if it appears below the bottom line, raise the valve seat with a 65 degree stone. With the seat in the proper spot, the spacing at the intake seat should be 1.75 - 2.36 mm (0.0689 - 0.0928 inch) and 1.71 - 2.32 mm (0.0673 - 0.0911 inch) at the exhaust seat. After finishing the valve (4) and (5) and seat, measure the installed height of both valve springs. They must not go beyond 40.74 mm (1.6039 inch). Ensure the valve seat and valve face make a 44.5 - 45° angle to each other.
