2004 Dodge Durango Oxygen Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix an Oxygen Sensor on 2004 Dodge Durango?
A: The oxygen sensor needs to be located first according to whether your vehicle uses four or two oxygen sensors, with the two-sensor car having one sensor pay downstream and another upstream. Be sure the engine cools down before you begin, since the exhaust manifold, exhaust pipes and catalytic converter may get very hot during use. Initially, get the vehicle on jacks or in the air, then disconnect the wire from the O2S sensor while avoiding to pull directly on the wire. To remove the O2S sensor, use a special tool and after that, clean the threads of the exhaust pipe with the right tap. When you place your new oxygen sensor, remember that the company has already applied anti-seize compound to its threads, so leave it as is and don't apply any more. Attach the O2S sensor and tighten it to 30 N.m (22 ft. lbs.), then attach the wire connector and lower the car.
