2004 Dodge Neon Oxygen Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install a Downstream Heated Oxygen Sensor on 2004 Dodge Neon?
A: The back heated oxygen sensor which passes into the exhaust outlet pipeline after the catalytic converter, should be handled with particular care when being taken out or installed. Before removing the sensor, raise the vehicle, remove the electrical connector from the harness and then take off the sensor electric harness from the clips on the body. Snap-On tool YA8875 and similar crow foot wrenches will help safely remove the oxygen sensor. After you take out the exhaust manifold, thread in an 18 mm X 1.5 + 6E tap to clean out the threads. Should you reuse your original sensor, place an anti-seize compound like Loctite® 771-64 or a similar product on the sensor threads. Since all new sensors have compound on the threads, you don't need to apply more yourself. Use the same crow foot wrench to fix the sensor and tighten it until the torque reads 28 N-m (20 ft. lbs.). Afterward, reattach the sensor electrical harness to the body clips, connect the electrical connector and lower the vehicle.
