2004 Jeep Liberty Fuel Rail Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Install a Fuel Rail on 2004 Jeep Liberty?
A: When you're ready to remove the fuel rail, first turn off the fuel pump, remove the fuel filler cap and remove the negative battery cable. After that, take off the air duct at the throttle body, disconnect the fuel line latch clip and fuel line at the fuel rail using a specific tool and remove whatever vacuum lines you need. First, drain the engine coolant, then detach the thermostat and thermostat housing and afterwards the PCV hose and valve from the valve cover. Release the two lower bolts on the upper intake manifold and unbolt the three top mounting ones. Remove the two main engine harnesses at the rear end of the intake and also take out the two injection wiring harness clips from the mounting bracket. To remove the connectors, press the red switch to stop them, then use the tab to remove the connector from the injector. After unthreading the two injection rail mounting bolts, ease the fuel rail out so the injectors clear the holes in the intake manifold and carefully pull them both out. Clean the bores of the fuel injectors in the intake manifold before installing and add a thin coat of oil to every fuel injector O-ring. Set the assembled fuel rail/fuel injector at the openings on the intake manifold, so each injector is placed inside the cylinder head without ripping the O-rings. Pull down on the fuel rail until the injectors are located and pushed firmly inside. After that, assemble and properly torque the fuel rail bolts as directed. Lock the power connectors from the fuel injectors and snap each injection wiring harness clip into its bracket. Connect both of the main engine harness connectors, tighten all five intake manifold bolts according to the required engine torque and set in the PCV valve and hose, thermostat and radiator hose, filling the system with coolant. Put the vacuum lines into the throttle body, reattach the latch clip and fuel line to the fuel rail, add the air duct to the throttle body and fit the battery cable. Turn on the car and look for any leaks.
