2005 Jeep Liberty Fuel Rail Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Reinstall a Fuel Rail on 2005 Jeep Liberty?
A: When removing the fuel rail, the fuel system pressure must be let out, the filler tube tube cap taken off and the negative battery cable disconnected. After that, take out the air duct from the throttle body, undo the latch clip and fuel tube from the fuel rail and get rid of any needed vacuum lines connected to the throttle body. Remove the engine coolant, pull out the thermostat plus its housing and take out the PCV hose and valve attached to the valve cover. For the 2.4L engine, unbolt the three upper mounting bolts and back off the two lower ones about two turns. Remove the two engine harness plugs from the rear of the intake manifold and the two inject wiring harness clips at the bracket mount. Release the connectors at the fuel injectors by sliding the red switch down and pressing the lock to take them out, identifying them with their factory labels. After removing the two bolts holding the injection rail, rock the rail back and forth gently until each injector has cleared the holes made in the engine. If you're going to put on the fuel injectors, clean up the holes in the intake manifold and then put a small layer of engine oil on each injector O-ring. Set the fuel rail/fuel injector into the matching paper dots in the openings of the cylinder head, taking care not to damage the O-rings. Drop the fuel rail so the injectors sit properly, install both fuel rail mounting bolts to the correct torque value and lock each electrical connector at every fuel injector. Connect the two injection wiring harness clips to the brackets, pair up the two main engine harness connectors and tighten the five intake manifold bolts to the engine torque standard. Place the PCV valve and hose, thermostat and radiator hose back on the engine. Fill it with anti-freeze after that. Couple the correct vacuum lines to the throttle body, put the fuel line latch clip and fuel line back in the fuel rail, fit the air duct onto the throttle body and link the battery cable. Turn the engine on and make sure no leaks are present.
