2004 Jeep Liberty Oil Pan Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Reinstall an Oil Pan on 2004 Jeep Liberty?
A: First, detach the air cleaner to clear the way and then get the car up on a hoist to release the oil in the engine. Loose the thru bolts holding the engine mount in place and take off the exhaust pipe attached to the manifold. If your vehicle is equipped in this way, remove the structural collar and front axle mounting bolts and set the axle as low as possible. Place Special Tool 8534 against the fender lip, match the bracket slots with the mounting holes and attach the brackets with four M6 X 1.0 X 25 mm flanged cap screws. Secure the sleeves to the support tube by tightening the thumbscrews and make sure the support tube stands firmly. First, attach the flat washer, thrust bearing, hook and T-handle and following this attach the chain to the front cover and the hook using the capscrew from the support fixture. Pull away the bolts binding the oil pan to the engine and take out the oil pan. Next, clean the pan itself as well as any gasket surfaces. To install, set the oil pan gasket on the block and put a 3 mm (1/8 in.) thick bead of Mopar Engine RTV on the line between the oil pump and the engine block. Fix the pan in place and tighten its screws to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.), lower the engine, then remove Special Tool 8534. Adjust all the thru bolts in the engine mounts, put the front axle in place and bolt it down if your truck has them. Hang the exhaust pipe on the manifold, add a structural collar if needed, lift the vehicle, fill the engine crankcase with the correct amount of oil and then attach the air cleaner assembly.
