2005 Jeep Liberty Seat Belt Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain the Rear Center Seat Belt on 2005 Jeep Liberty?
A: Before servicing the rear center seat belt, check all its components, including the seat belt, buckle, hardware, retractors, tether straps and anchors, change any torn or worn belts and tighten every fastener. Take the right center seat belt buckle unit out from below the seat, unhook and lie flat the right rear seat back and lift the carpets in the cargo area away from underneath the rear back panel. Get the screw that holds the rear center seat belt lower anchor in place, remove it and lift the anchor off the stud. Undo the screws joining the belt web guide to the top of the right rear seat back panel and take out the panel. Taking the trim off of the right rear back seat, direct the rear seat belt lower anchor and belt web guide through the panel above the seat back. Pull the cable support off the cable fitting on the seat back latch. After that, detach the screw that secures the retractor to the back panel and take away the rear center seat belt unit and retractor. For set up, connect the rear center seat belt and retractor to the seat back, tighten the retractor screw to 27 N.m (20 ft.lbs.) and engage the seat back latch cable with the cable support on the retractor. Loop the back belt anchor and the belt web guide through an opening at the top of the seat, attach the right rear seat back trim and screw the webbing guide to the left slot with two 2 N.m (20 in.lbs.) torque fasteners. Fit the right rear seat back panel in again, arrange the rear center lower seat belt anchor on its stud and tighten the connecting screw to the floor panel at 43 N.m (32 ft.lbs.). Place the cargo area carpet at the bottom edge of the seat back panel and stand up the right rear seat back before reinstalling the right center seat belt buckle unit onto the floor where it belongs.
