2004 Jeep Liberty Wiper Motor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain a Wiper Motor on 2004 Jeep Liberty?
A: You should begin service of the rear wiper motor by disconnecting the battery negative cable. Take the rear wiper arm off the rear wiper motor shaft. Using a thin blade, lightly lift the base of the rear wiper motor out by its notch so you can separate the nut cover from the bezel and keep the outer tailgate panel and finish safe. Then, disconnect the nut connecting the rear wiper motor output shaft to the outer swing gate panel and remove the bezel and gasket from the same place. Release the trim panel from the tailgate basis and pull the flip-up glass ajar switch wire harness connector from the flip-up glass latch receptacle connector. Disconnect the tailgate wire harness connector hooked to the rear wiper motor from its connector receptacle. Take out the two screws that attach the rear wiper motor mounting bracket to the top of the tailgate inner panel and then move the motor and mounting bracket back far enough so that the screws come out of their slots in the tailgate. To take out the wiper and its backing plate, unbolt them from the rear of the vehicle simultaneously. As you install, slide the rear wiper motor and bracket assembly into the tailgate to reach the bracket holes in the rear, then push the rear wiper motor shaft through the tailgate outer panel hole and correctly fit the two screws into the notched parts in the inner panel. Go into the clearance hole at the tailgate outer panel, slide the rear wiper motor output shaft in and then add the gasket and bezel. Screw the nut joining the rear wiper motor output shaft to the tailgate outer panel to 5 Nm (43 in. lbs.) and screw the two rear wiper motor mounting bracket screws into the tailgate inner panel top with 6 Nm (57 in. lbs.) of torque. Make sure to reconnect the rear wiper motor wire harness to the rear wiper engine and the flip-up window ajar switch wire harness to the latch connected. Fit the trim panel to the rear of the tailgate, hold the nut cover down over the rear wiper motor until it snaps into place and place the rear wiper arm onto the end of the motor output shaft. Now, place the negative cable on the battery.
