2004 Jeep Wrangler Oil Pan Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair an Oil Pan on 2004 Jeep Wrangler?
A: It's important to pull out the air cleaner panel, raise the car on a hoist and empty the engine oil before you go on to service and repair the oil pan. Remove the three engine mount bolts and detach the pipe from the manifold. If your car has them, unbolt both the structural collar and the front axle hold, then drop the axle as much as you can. Tape Special Tool 8534 to the fender lip and, using the slots in the brackets, compare them with the holes in the fender. Finally, screw the brackets into place with four M6 X 1.0 X 25 MM flanged cap screws. Make sure the sleeves are firmly attached to the end of the support tube by bracelets and keep it standing up. Place the flat washer, thrust bearing, hook and T handle together and add the M10 X 1.5 X 40 mm capscrew from the support fixture to secure the chain to the front cover and the hook as necessary. Loosen the attaching bolts of the oil pan and the oil pan itself, remove them and then clean all surfaces where the gasket fits. First, set the oil pan gasket onto the block and then use a 3-millimeter (1/8-inch) layer of Mopar Engine RTV around the area between the oil pump and block. Assemble the pan, tighten the screws to 12 Nm (105 inch lbs.), lift the engine upward and take out Special Tool 8534. Tighten the engine mount bolts fitted through the crankshaft, lift up the front axle and install the bolts that secure the front axle if you have them. Install the exhaust pipe back on the manifold, add a structural collar if your engine has one, lower the car, ensure the proper oil fills the crankcase to the needed amount and set up the air cleaner assembly.
