First, turn off the negative battery cable and lift the vehicle to service and repair the oil pan. Drain the oil from the engine by taking out the oil pan plug and next, remove the engine
Starter Motor and the
Flywheel/torque converter cover. Place a jack stand under the engine vibration damper, placing a 2 x 2 piece of wood underneath and remove the
Engine Mount bolts. Elevate the engine enough with the jack stand so you can work on the oil pan. Remove any transmission oil cooling lines and any oxygen sensor wiring supports that are linked to the oil pan studs and then get at the fasteners and gently lift off the oil pan and gasket. Clean all gasket surfaces on the block and pan and then use four 1/4 x 1 1/2 inch bolts without their heads to make alignment dowels, making a slot in each for easier installation and removal. Insert two dowels into the timing cover and insert two more into the cylinder block. Paint Silicone Rubber Adhesive Sealant Mopar on the corners of the rear main bearing cap and on the joint between the cylinder block and front cover. First, slip the gasket over the dowels onto the block and timing cover and afterwards, set the oil pan over the dowels onto the gasket. Attach the 1/4 inch oil pan fasteners and tighten them to 9.5 Nm (84 in. lbs.), then put in the 5/16 inch oil pan fasteners and tighten them to 15 Nm (132 in. lbs.). Get rid of the dowels, add the oil pan's final 1/4 inch fasteners and tighten them to 9.5 Nm (84 in. lbs.). Place the engine onto the mounts and tighten the through bolts, then lower the jack stand and finally remove the wood. After completing the flywheel and torque converter housing installation, put back the cover and then install the engine starter motor. Attach the
Exhaust Pipe to both the hanger and engine
Exhaust Manifold and then put back any transmission oil cooling lines (if there are any) and oxygen sensor wiring supports. Install the oil pan drain plug and tighten it to 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.) torque, lower the car, reattach the negative battery cable and add oil to the oil pan so that the level is as indicated. Be very careful around the engine when it is running, so that you do not stand in line with the fan or let your hands touch pulleys, belts or the fan and also avoid wearing loose clothing. Start the engine to check if any leaks develop.
