2006 Chrysler 300 Power Steering Hose Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Power Steering Hose for Pressure Hose on 2006 Chrysler 300?
A: Before starting to service or repair the power steering hose, separate the battery negative cable and remove the power steering fluid from the reservoir. Get rid of the air cleaner housing and inlet tube that connects to the throttle body. If you have a 3.5L engine, unscrew the tube nut and take out the pressure hose from the pump; repeat this for 5.7L/6.1L engines. Get the vehicle off the ground and then remove the belly pan. Pull the screws out from the sides of the engine cradle that attach the pressure hose and routing clamp. Loosen the return hose tube nut and pull out the return hose from the steering gear and then unthread the pressure hose tube nut to remove the pressure hose from the steering gear and your vehicle. For a RWD vehicle, also begin by isolating the power and taking the cap off the steering gear, then remove the pressure hose nut and the pressure hose. When installing, put the pressure hose into the car from underneath, always replacing the O-ring on its tip with a new one. Put a little clean power steering fluid on the new O-ring at the steering gear end of the hose and attach the pressure hose to the steering gear without tightening anything. Route the pressure hose along the left edge of the engine cradle, fix it with a screw from the routing clamp. Then, route it from the cradle's front, secure it again with another screw. Set each hose tube nut at the steering gear to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.), place the belly pan and lower the vehicle when you're done. Lubricate the new O-ring on the power steering pump end of the pressure hose with proper fluid, then put the pressure hose onto the pump, using 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.) torque on the tube nut for all three engines. Replace the air cleaner housing, put in the air inlet tube, reconnect the battery negative cable and pour fluid into the pump reservoir before working on the pump. In the installation process, change the O-ring and make sure to apply the needed lubricant.
